Students will hone basic skills in observation and categorization, as well as improve critical thinking with this kit, divided into four primary lessons. Each lesson comes with background materials and stated objectives.

Minerals, Their Properties and Identification; Rock Identification and Classification; Erosion and the Rock Cycle; and Man’s Use of Rocks and Minerals. Each kit includes 17 different numbered minerals, 1×2"; 14 different numbered rocks, 1×2"; glass hardness plate; streak plate; steel washer; plastic magnifier; copper strip; common nail; lead sinker; pencil; vial of table salt; vial of talcum powder; granitic gravel; “dirty” sand; “clean” sand; acid bottle (acid not included); and one set of six plastic crystal models. It also includes a 44-page teacher’s guide and copymasters for 11 activities. All materials come packaged in convenient storage containers.
