| Description | HIV-1 p24 protein.The protein contains a fragment of HIV-1 core proteinp24, Molecular Weight is 39 kDa.The HIV-1 p24 is fused to beta-galactosidase (114 kDa).The protein was purified by proprietary chromatographictechnique.HIV belongs to the retrovirus family, distinguished bypossession of a viral reverse transcriptase that transcribesviral RNA into DNA which is integrated into the host-cellgenome.The outer envelope is acquired during virion buddingand is studded with spikes formed by the two majorviral-envelope glycoproteins (the surface protein gp120and the transmembrane protein gp41).The central core contains four viral proteins (p24-themajor capsid protein, p17-a matrix protein, p9, andp7), two copies of the HIV RNA genome (to which p7and p9 are bound), and three viral enzymes (reversetranscriptase, integrase, and protease) essential for viralreplication.Proteins from the inner core of HIV-1, such as the capsidprotein (p24), are involved in crucial processes duringthe virus life cycle.
