Ranitidine is an antihistamine that antagonizes the histamine H2 receptor (pKi = 7.1) in gastric cells, which leads to a decrease in gastric acid secretion and a reduction of hydrogen ion concentration. Ranitidine inhibits intracellular cAMP production with an IC50 value of 1 µM. Its gastroprotective activity has been exploited for the treatment of various gastric acid disorders. |
