The Easiest Way to Assess Host-Microbiome Interactions
Highlights:
-
Ready-to-use:
The kit includes standardized reagents, as well as validated methods for sample preparation and mass spectrometric analysis.
-
High throughput:
One kit analyses up to 80 samples within 12 hours.
-
Proven reproducibility:
The kit has proven to provide excellent inter-laboratory comparability in an international ring trial (Pham et al., J Appl Lab Med., 2016, DOI: 10.1373/jalm.2016.020537).
-
Small sample volume:
Just 10-20 μL of serum or plasma needed (other matrices have successfully been tested).
Bile acids are known to help absorb dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins. Beyond this core function, bile acids exert many additional biological functions via receptor signaling, including the nuclear receptor farnesoid X receptor (FXR). Since bile acids are modulated by bacteria in the intestines, bile acids are also of great interest in studies related to therole of gut microbiota in health and disease.
The Biocrates® Bile Acids Kit uses the sensitive and specific technology of mass spectrometry to provide quantitative information about up to 20 bile acids. The compounds covered by the kit include all four types of bile acids:
- Primary bile acids: produced by the liver
- Primary conjugated bile acids: primary bile acids transformed by liver enzymes
- Secondary unconjugated bile acids: primary bile acids transformed by gut bacteria
- Secondary conjugated bile acids: secondary unconjugated bile acids transformed by gut bacteria and liver enzymes
